WOMEN AND SELF-ESTEEM

PSYCHOEDUCATIONAL SUPPORT GROUP

The Lutheran Service Society of New York is committed to helping women cope with the stressors and difficulties of living in today's world. Women are confronted daily with challenges from relationships, family, children, employment, and their own inner conflicts. They have been told they can "have it all", but at what cost? Women for centuries have been the caretakers of society, regularly putting their needs last. This lack of attention received by their bodies and souls has now manifested themselves in modern problems: depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalagia, increased numbers of heart attacks and strokes. The Women and Self-Esteem Program is helping women become empowered, bringing strength to their bodies and rest to their souls.

Program Objectives:

  • Learn the origin of your low self-esteem
  • Explore the impact low self-esteem has on your relationships and relationship choices
  • Learn skills around setting limits, boundaries, and saying NO
  • Learn modes of self-care
  • Identify your assets
  • Learn that anger is just an emotion and can be expressed in a healthy, productive manner
  • Set new personal goals for the newly empowered you

Other Options:

  • One on one counseling
  • Seminar format for groups

Self-esteem or the lack of it impacts virtually every part of a person's life. It will play an integral role in the quality of relationships one has, the quality of family life, career, and schooling choices one makes. Self-esteem will ultimately determine the amount of joy one experiences, and one's overall peace of mind.
